Report & Results: 2013 Battle of the Bands

Rolls Royce Derby take the honours at the ever popular Battle of the Bands.

The 7th ICCB and Staveley Town Council Battle of the Bands contest was held in Staveley near Chesterfield on recently, sponsored by Conceptunet Ltd and Raw Brewery.

Fine performances

Adjudicator Kevin Wadsworth judged 14 fine performances, the largest entry since the contest started, and commented that he was impressed with the standard of playing from all sections including the Training Band Section where four bands with a good mix of young players really enjoyed themselves.

He did however comment on the Third & Fourth Section bands who, in the acoustic of the hall on what was a warm day sometimes ‘over-cooked’ the dynamics.

He stated that it spoilt performances and was one of the reasons some failed to get into the prizes.

Victories

The Training Band hours eventually went to Rotherham Schools Youth, with Rolls Royce Derby, conducted by Graham Cardwell taking the Third/Fourth Section honours ahead of Dinnington Colliery and Maltby Miners.

Thanks

Event organiser Ian Knapton told 4BR: "It was a long, hard day and without the great team of players from Ireland Colliery Band and supporters the contest would not have ran so smoothly.

We would also like to thank Conceptunet and Raw Brewery who have supported us over the last 3 years."

Support

Band Chairman Graham Weighill also added: "Without the continued support from Staveley Town Council, Conceptunet and Raw Brewery this contest would not be as successful as it is. We would like to thank all the bands for entering and hope to see them next year on Sunday 22nd June."
