There was an excellent turn out of bands and supporters at the 2nd Whiston Festival of Brass held on the weekend in the picturesque village near Rotherham in Yorkshire.
Wonderful entertainment
16 bands provided wonderful entertainment for listeners as they marched through the village – where the three local hostelries ran out of beer thanks to the sweltering weather and thirsty bandsmen and women!
Colin Hardy adjudicated the main senior band event with Jonathan Beatty judging the Training/Junior Band contest.
Concert ending
The day was rounded off with a superb evening concert that featured euphonium star Steven Mead as the guest soloist accompanied by Emley Brass.
Winners
Strata Brass claimed the honours and the first prize of £350 ahead of Yorkshire rivals Chapeltown Sliver with Silk Brass in third.
Nicky Hand of Whitwell Brass claimed the ‘Best Soloist’ prize with her rendition of ‘Send in the Clowns’.
Next year’s Whiston Festival of Brass 'Brasstonberry' will be held on Saturday 5th July.
