4BR has been informed that the British Library is to acquire the complete collection of composer George Lloyd’s original music manuscripts.
Centenary date
The news comes just days before the centenary date of the composer’s birth on June 28th, which will also be marked 24 hours later at the English National Championships in Birmingham, where his 1986 composition ‘Diversions on a Bass Theme’ will be used as the set work.
Accolades
Further accolades will see a performance of his march ‘HMS Trinidad’ arranged for string orchestra at the ‘Last Night of the Proms’, as well as a late night BBC Promenade Concert performance of his ‘Requiem’. He is also to be featured as ‘Composer of the Week’ on BBC Radio 3.
The collection contains over 130 of Lloyd’s scores, many of which were the composer’s personal copies for conducting and recording.
