Regent Brass will be performing the world premiere of a new work by internationally acclaimed composer Raymond Yiu next week.
Inspired
‘Ink Garden’ is inspired by an early 17th century collection of Chinese calligraphy and graphics, first published in 1606, and is a tribute to the composer Richard Rodney Bennett who died last year.
It draws much of its musicality from one of Bennett’s unpublished jazz songs ‘Goodbye for Now’
Funding for the ground breaking work has come from the BBC Performing Arts Fund and PRS for Music Foundation.
Exciting
The composer Raymond Yiu, told 4BR: "Ink Garden was one of the most challenging and exciting projects that I have ever undertaken, and I hope that the piece will raise other composers interest in writing for brass band."
