Fulham Brass

The death has been announced of former Fulham Brass Musical Director Cecil Exton.

Popular

A highly popular and influential figure in the band’s history, he helped save Fulham from folding in the early 1970’s and was instrumental in turning the band’s fortune around, rebuilding it to full strength within a few years.

Cecil and his wife, Jean, who played Eb bass continued with the band until 1989 when they both retired and decided to emigrate to the island of Zakynthos in Greece.

Warm and friendly

A spokesperson told 4BR: "His warm and friendly nature was an integral part of the band’s performances. Cecil’s love of the English language were fully utilised at London and Home Counties own choice contests which he compered over several years.

His often humorous introductions to the contest pieces, using his language skills, delighted contest audiences.”
