Cory Academy hits 100

Over 100 youngsters are now benefiting from the youth outreach work of the Cory Academy initiative.

Cory Academy

European champions Cory have told 4BR that they are delighted with the success of their Cory Academy initiative, which can now boast over 100 children accessing expert tuition from the band’s stable of star players on a weekly basis throughout the Rhondda Cynon Taff area of South Wales.

Outreach

The Academy is the youth outreach arm of the band which supports youth bands throughout the area. Children aged from 7-17 receive tuition to learn to play a brass instrument or develop their playing skills from the band’s tutors.

Supported by the Arts Council of Wales, the band is currently gearing up for its first educational weekend event which will be held on Saturday 8th June at Porth County Community School.

Exciting opportunity

The young players will be given another exciting opportunity to work with the Cory tutors before showcasing their hard work in concert at the Parc & Dare Theatre in Treorchy the same night.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "This is a wonderful opportunity for the youngsters to share the stage with Cory on what will be our last local concert performance before we fly off on our Australian Tour in August.

It will also hopefully inspire them to keep practising too for when the tutors return!"
