Lydgate clarify Whit Friday results

The organisers of the Lydgate Whit Friday contest have clarified their position over their contest awards.

Whit Friday

The Lydgate Whit Friday organisers have announced that they have implemented a number of rule changes following the contest last weekend.

They stated:

"It is with apologies and regret that we, as a committee, have decided to amend our rules after this year’s contest.

Two years ago we added a runner- up prize in each section in addition to the winner’s prize. Our rules allowed for lower section bands to win higher section prizes.

The points awarded to bands this year, meant that when applying this rule, the best band in each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sections became runners up in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Section respectively.

This meant, regrettably, that the best band in each section won less money than the band that came second to them.

Our rule change allows for a lower section band to be winner of a higher section but not be runner-up in a higher section.

We believe that our results now fairly reflect the spirit of the competition."

Consolation prize

They added: "The change to our rules means that one band no longer wins a runner-up prize.

Sale Brass, previously 4th Section runner-up, will regrettably not receive a prize. However the committee feels it is only fair that they still receive the equivalent prize money as consolation.

We apologise to all bands concerned."
