David Childs has told 4BR that he is looking forward to leading the newly formed Cardiff Symphonic Winds Orchestra in a high profile concert in the Welsh capital on Saturday evening.
Ambitious
The orchestra comprises many leading South Wales musicians, and has already created a great deal of interest in the arts media with its ambitious programming of events and repertoire.
"This is another major step in the orchestra’s exciting development," David said.
"To have a world class performer such as Philip Cobb as our guest soloist says a great deal about the level of commitment and musical ambition that is being shown."
Popular
He added: "It’s a great honour to be able to conduct on a programme that I’m sure will prove very popular. I’m really looking forward to Saturday evening."
Billed as ‘East Meets West, the inaugural performance will feature a host of popular and contemporary music from Western Europe, United States and Russia.
The principal trumpet of the LSO will perform the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto, as well as Paul Sharman’s ‘Flourish’ and Andrew Pearce’s ‘Interlude’.
