The European Brass Band Championships are already underway in Oslo, with the first major final of the event taking place at the Oslo Konserthus on Thursday evening, when a trio of talented conductors look to win the 6th European Conductor’s contest.
Whittled down
The 16 contenders have been whittled down through three rounds of competition and will now face the daunting task of impressing a panel of adjudicators that include Peter Szilvay, Hans Urbanek, Fried Dobbestein, Ivan Meylemans and Robert Childs.
Finalists
The three finalists conducting Oslo Brass Band are Adam Cooke from England, who will direct Edward Gregson’s ‘Dances & Arias’, Dominik Koch of Germany who will conduct Wilfred Heaton’s ‘Contest Music’ and Kalle Huusava of Finland who lead the band on Robert Simpson’s ‘Energy’.

Reached final
Adam and Dominik reached the final by conducting the Norwegian Radio Orchestra on Weber’s ‘Der Freischütz’ Overture, with Kalle directing Verdi’s ‘La Forza de Destino’.
