Butlins honour for Hawley

Geoff Hawley finally receives his Butlins Bandsperson of the Year Award.

There was a wonderful, if slightly belated Skegness award made on the weekend, as Brian Eggleshaw, Contest Controller for the Butlins Mineworkers Championship was finally able to present the 2013 Butlins ‘Bandperson of the Year’ trophy to Geoff Hawley at Stannington Band’s concert at their local Lomas Hall.

Weather delay

The initial award presentation could not be made due to the terrible weather that engulfed the Skegness Resort in January, but Brian has promised that he would make an official presentation of the accolade as soon as was possible.

That came on Saturday evening, where during the concert he was able to finally present it to a delighted Geoff in front of an appreciative audience, who had enjoyed a fine concert by the band and their junior section counterparts.

It was a lovely way to finally present Geoff with his deserved award. The audience was fully aware of his outstanding contribution to banding and the reception he received was wonderfulBrian Eggleshaw

Lovely way

Brian told 4BR: "It was a lovely way to finally present Geoff with his deserved award. The audience was fully aware of his outstanding contribution to banding and the reception he received was wonderful."
