After an absence of eight years, the Stanley Newmarket Colliery Band is to reform with the aim of once again competing at the Yorkshire Regional Championships.
Bradford return
The original band competed as far back as 1869, but last took to the contest stage in 2005. They will take their first steps back next Monday 15th April, when they get together for a first rehearsal and hope to compete at St George’s Hall in Bradford in 2014.
Wonderful news
A spokesperson told 4BR: "This is wonderful news. We have secured a rehearsal venue in Micklefield, have appointed a Musical Director and have managed to attract a large group of enthusiastic and committed players, all of whom want to play a part of reviving a proud Yorkshire banding name."
