Some of Norway’s leading brass musicians have got together to form a brand new 10 piece brass ensemble based in Bergen.
Combine
The Bergen Brass Ensemble is made up of players that combine both orchestral and brass band experience – many of whom play in leading bands such as Eikanger Bjorsvik and Manger Musikklag.
They will be making their debut in May in a concert featuring Kleppe Musikklag and Tertnes Band in paying musical homage to composer Derek Bourgeois.
Grosso
The centre piece will be the ensemble’s performance of the original setting of the composer’s masterful ‘Concerto Grosso’.
The ensemble, which will be conducted by Andreas Lien Røe is made up of Preben Johansen, Thorgeir Thunestvedt and Torstein Holmås on trumpet, Hans Marius Andersen on flugel horn, Christian Holter on french horn, trombonists, Grethe Tonheim, Viggo Vea, Sølvi Ones and Tore Bryne Berg, tuba star Eirik Gjerdevik and percussionists Espen Haukås, Kim Systad and Mathias Matland.
