The latest addition to the Elland Band organisation recently gave their first performance at the Halifax Music for Youth Regional Festival on Sunday 24th March.
Rallied
Despite the dreadful weather conditions the youngsters of the Elland Silver Starter Band were determined to perform and parents rallied round to clear snow and ensure they could make it.
The festivals music mentors were full of praise for the youngsters who performed a 15 minute programme of different musical styles. They were praised for their rhythmic detail, balance of dynamics and musicality.
Youth Championships
The band is now looking forward to performing at the National Youth Championships on Sunday 14th April at the Royal Northern College of Music.
The band was formed just 12 months ago to provide a beginner level ensemble for players who local primary schools taught through Elland’s outreach programme. Elland Silver Youth Band’s current MD, Samantha Harrison overseas the progress and provides tuition to beginners in local primary schools.
It was fantastic to see three bands from our organisation performing at the festival to such a high standard of musicianship. They are a huge credit to themselves and our organisationSam Harrison
Fantastic to see
She told 4BR: "It was fantastic to see three bands from our organisation performing at the festival to such a high standard of musicianship. They are a huge credit to themselves and our organisation.
I must thank all our parents for their support and especially our inspirational Musical Directors who work so hard."
