The organisers of the popular Bolsover Festival of Brass have presented a cheque to the Royal Academy of Music in London for £1838.75 for the James Watson Memorial Trust.
Generously raised
The money was generously raised at the Bolsover Charity Entertainment Contest and Pleasley Jubilee Concert last year.
The great trumpeter died in 2011, has been greatly missed by musicians in both the orchestral and the brass banding worlds.
Thanks
Julia Watson, James’ wife, told 4BR: "This is an unbelievable achievement. The whole family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to everyone."
Support
Event organiser Carole Crompton added: "Jim was a great personal friend and highly respected musician worldwide.
It was not difficult to persuade people to get involved in the event, and everyone gave up their time freely to support Jim’s charity including the adjudicators Philip Sparke and Allan Wycherley, bands and conductors alike.
I’m so pleased that we have been able to support the charity and will be organising other fundraising initiatives to support it in the future."

The Charity contest will support Breast Cancer Research in 2013, an organisation regularly supported by Bolsover District Council.
The contest, now quickly approaching its third year, will host four or more bands as part of the charity fundraiser and will be staged at Shirebrook Leisure Centre, Park Road, Shirebrook on Saturday 5th October. The competing bands will be announced shortly.
