Oscar winners claim Elland Awards

The Elland Silver Band has been dishing out the Oscars after a year to remember.

Elland Silver Band celebrated their recent qualification to the National Finals in Cheltenham at the Yorkshire Regional Championships by hosting their annual 'Band Oscars'.

The awards night has now become a real feature of Elland’s social calendar, and this year the prizes on offer reflected the success enjoy during the past contest season.

Spokesperson Sam Harrison told 4BR: "Due credit for a great year must go to the dedicated work of Musical Director’s James Shepherd and David Essex and to the commitment of all the players."

The prizes went to the ‘Most Promising Newcomers’ of Ben Hofland-Ward and Lauren Rosborough, with ‘Most Improved Players Under 18’ won by Tom Fox and Gerry Simpson.

Player of the Year

The ‘Over 18’ awards went to William Spencer, Andrew McKinley and Megan Plant, whilst ‘Bandperson of the Year’ was Samantha Harrison herself. The prestigious ‘Player of the Year’ award went jointly to David Armitage and Bethan Plant.
