Londoners get extra trial for Stevenage

Five London & Southern Counties Bands recently had an extra trail run through their Stevenage tests.

Stevenage

The Mark Rutherford School in Bedford recently played host to five London & Southern Counties Area bands — one from each section – for a pre-Stevenage Area contest day trial.

Trial run

With two weeks to go before their all important contest, Royston, Olney, Hitchin, MK Brass and Bedford Town performed their test pieces as well as a hymn tune and march – all enjoyed by fellow players and supporters.

The respected trumpeter Paul Archibald was on hand to listen and comment as the unofficial adjudicator, making a number of observations directly to the bands and audience.

It was a great day and all the bands have gained experience. Paul’s comments were excellent and gave each band plenty to work on with two weeks to go before the contest itselfTony Wile

Great day

Tony Wile told 4BR: "It was a great day and all the bands have gained experience. Paul’s comments were excellent and gave each band plenty to work on with two weeks to go before the contest itself."

The idea for the event came from Craig Patterson, MD of Hitchin and MK Brass with help from Tony Wiles from Bedford Town Band.
