New MD and sop at Dyke

There is a new new MD and soprano cornet at Foss Dyke Band — just in time for their challenge at the Midlands Regional Championship.

Paul Jackson

The Foss Dyke Band has announced the appointment of talented young conductor, Paul Jackson to lead them at the forthcoming Third Section Midlands Regional contest.

Full commitment

Paul has been working with the band for a few months, at first leading autumn and Christmas engagements, but now able to make the full commitment to the Lincolnshire based band.

Paul told 4BR: "I’m really excited to be able to take on the challenge of occupying the post of MD. To be able to lead such a well known band in the region early on in my conducting career is a real pleasure, especially as Foss Dyke is my village band!"

Well known soprano

Meanwhile, the band has signed well known soprano player Simon Oates on Soprano Cornet in time for its performance of ‘Hollywood’ at Bedworth.

Simon is no stranger to Foss Dyke having occupied the soprano chair when they went from the Fourth to the Championship Section in just seven years, before leaving to take the sop seat at Thoresby Colliery Band.

Delighted

Simon added: "I’m delighted to be back playing and at Foss Dyke once again. The band is working hard under the baton of Paul Jackson and I’m particularly looking forward to performing once again at the Midlands Regional Championships."
