Birchfield Music has announced another three additions to their ever-growing catalogue.
Freefall
Birchfield Music’s first test piece aimed at higher section bands is a 'Freefall', an exciting new work based on musical explorations of falling major and minor thirds.
With a variety of fast and slow movements there is plenty to test all sections of the band as well as soloists, both in terms of technical finger-work and lyrical playing.
Whilst written as a test, it is also very listenable with clear melodic lines throughout. Lasting in the region of 13 minutes, the piece will stand on its own as an own choice test piece or as a major concert work.
Celebration Overture
The second piece on offer is a new work entitled 'Celebration Overture'.
The piece, which is lively and playful in nature, would suit any band of around second section and above. It contains a slower section featuring a cornet solo in the higher register that would demonstrate the lyrical playing of your band’s principal cornet player.
The final quicker section starts with a quasi-fugato passage in which the melody is passed throughout the band before coming to a satisfying conclusion.
The piece lasts just over 8 minutes and would be a good addition to your concert repertoire.
Amazing Grace
The most recent addition to the catalogue is 'Amazing Grace'.
This well-loved hymn has been around for many years but in this version, it has been given a treatment reminiscent of a New Orleans jazz funeral – very laid back and relaxed and it would be a good audience-pleaser in your concerts.
