2013 Action Research details announced

The details of the premier Youth Entertainment Contest that takes place in Blackpool on 10th February have been announced

Twelve bands will compete at Blackpool's Winter Gardens on Sunday 10th February in a bid to be to be crowned the 2013 Action Medical Research Youth Entertainment Champions of Great Britain.

Defending champion returns

Elland Silver Youth, led by Samantha Harrison will return to Blackpool to defend their title whilst the newly-crowned Butlins Youth and Junior Ensemble winners, Youth Brass 2000 and Wardle High School will also be in attendance.

Back in the Opera House

The competition has fluctuated in recent years between The Opera House and the Empress Ballroom and having been in the wide open spaces of the ballroom last year, the contest returns to the stage which hosts The North West Area Championship Section and Grand Shield contests.

Experienced judging duo

The judges for the competition will be the experienced duo of Andrew Berryman and Robin Dewhurst. Andrew will judge the music element whilst Robin will focus on the entertainment.

Debutants, Pre-draws and lunch break

The organiser of the contest, Gary Walczak has informed 4BR that the first three bands have been pre-drawn and notified to aid travelling to Blackpool whilst their will be a lunch break after band number five has performed.

Speaking with 4BR Gary was delighted not to just have twelve bands competing at the contest but looking forward to welcoming St Keverne who will be making their debut at the competition. "It's great to see such a strong turn out this year from the bands and we're absolutely thrilled to welcome St Keverne for the first time at the event".

Pre-results entertainment

Prior to announcing the results and which band will receive an invitation to perform at Brass in Concert in November, The White River Brass Ensemble which comprises of members of Black Dyke will perform a short concert.

Ticket details

The start time for the contest is 10.30am with the doors opening at 9.00am.

The ticket prices are the same as last year: Adults £7:00, Children £4:00.

Cambrian Brass

January 11 • We are a friendly, inclusive and hard-working brass band, welcoming players of all ages and abilities. We are particularly keen to fill our Soprano Cornet, Flugelhorn, Tenor Horn, Euphonium and EEb Bass positions.


Putney and Wimbledon Brass Band

January 8 • Following our promotion to the 2nd section we are looking for a percussionist to do a bit of bing bonging on the timps for the regionals in March. We are a lovely band - everyone says so - so please get in touch. Rehearsals Weds from 1930 in Putney.
