Weston set for 2013

The Weston Super Mare contest is already gearing itself up for 2013 — with the Germans possibly coming as well.

It has been announced that the 45th Weston Super Mare Contest will take place on Sunday 19th May next year.

Popular

The popular own choice contest will be held at the Winter Gardens, promoted by the South West Brass Band Association.

The existing format will remain, with Parkwood Community Leisure and North Somerset Council supporting the event in providing the excellent facilities for the bands and supporters alike — with the added opportunity of a day beside the sea and Weston’s rejuvenated sea front!

Important event

Parkwood Leisure Manager, Peter Undery told 4BR: "This is an important event, enabling us to showcase our auditorium, restaurant and bar facilities to band members and their supporters and families."

With Weston Brass members continuing to supply stewarding on the day, bands are assured of a warm welcome which attracts entries from across the South West, Wales, Midlands, Home Counties and South East.

We had a great entry last year and very positive feedback. I’m determined to see the event continue to attract bands from a wide areaJohn Woods

Delighted

Organiser John Woods added: "I’m delighted to be taking this contest forward in its 45th year. We had a great entry last year and very positive feedback. I’m determined to see the event continue to attract bands from a wide area.

We have already had an enquiry from a German band, so how we manage registration on that I don’t know yet!”

Adjudicators for 2013 will be Chris Wormald and David Thornton. The Contest schedule and entry form will be available from John Woods in December at: johnwwoods@tiscali.co.uk or telephone: 01934 750700.
