4BR has been informed by Colin Johnson that he has resigned from his post as Registrar of the British Brass Band Registry.
Integrity
In a statement to 4BR he says that due to his managerial integrity becoming ‘impossible to maintain’ he felt he had no alternative but to resign from a post he has held with distinction for 15 years.
4BR understands that an alleged catastrophic breakdown in the working relationship between certain members of the British Federation of Brass Bands (latterly Brass Bands England) and Colin Johnson played a major part in him making the decision.
He told 4BR: "I sent a letter of resignation to the BFBB/BBE on Friday 26th October effective immediately. I intend to continue to follow the advice provided by my Solicitor in relation to matters that have driven me to the stage where I feel that I have no alternative but to resign with immediate effect."
My resignation is with heavy heart and regret that ultimately my managerial integrity became impossible to maintainColin Johnson.
Statement
His statement reads: "I wish to offer my sincere thanks to all band Secretaries, players, and contest organisers who have supported me over the last fifteen years. You all made me very welcome and it has been a privilege and pleasure working with you.
The changes that together we have been able to achieve I hope will be a lasting legacy. I feel that I have made many good friends.
My resignation is with heavy heart and regret that ultimately my managerial integrity became impossible to maintain.
I must offer special thanks to Frank Hodges who provided the supervision and support without which we could not have achieved such progress.
Thanks also to contest organisers for the understanding and support, with particular thanks to Regional Committees and to Kapitol Promotions Ltd who through no fault of their own find themselves in such a difficult position."
