Report & Results: 2012 Dronfield Contest

Local favourites Dronfield under the baton of John Davies claim the home town entertainment honours.

The 54th annual Dronfield Contest, organised by North East Derbyshire District Council took place at Dronfield Leisure Centre on Saturday 15th September.

Three bands

Three invited bands each performed a 25 minute entertainment programme adjudicated by Brian Grant.

Local favourites Dronfield, conducted by John Davis (above) claimed the Hallsworth Trophy and £400 first prize, with a clear two point victory from Matlock, under the baton of Andrew Dennis, who were presented with the NEDDC Trophy and £300.

Shirland Miners Welfare directed by Marie Smith was third. They received the Geroge Fren Trophy and £150.

Best soloist

The Bernard Smith Trophy and NEDDC Plate for the best stand-up soloist was awarded to Matlock’s euphonium player Chris Garfitt for his outstanding performance of performance of Monti’s ‘Czardas’.
