Coalburn Silver’s recent inspirational workshop day with tuba star Les Neish has led to the band finalising exciting developments to help secure the future of the oldest remaining brass band in South Lanarkshire.
Percussion Academy
Fresh from coming an excellent sixth and taking the ‘Highest Placed Second Section Band’ award at the Land O’ Burns contest in Troon, it has been announced that the Coalburn Percussion Academy will start later this month, led by principal percussionist Jamie Miller.
Jamie commented: "This is an exciting new development for the band and I’m thrilled to have been asked to lead it. Our plan is to start small. We already have 5 youngsters in the Bronze Band set up but we plan to go forward and build on these numbers."

Bronze Band
Meanwhile, the band has also established a third tier to their musical organisation with the development of the Coalburn Bronze Band.
Band President Alan Court told 4BR: "With the continuing success and development of our senior band and the increasing numbers and range of abilities in our children’s band, we now feel it’s time to add a third tier to our structure.
The new band will start in January of next year allowing us ample time to appoint a Musical Director."
