Perth all set for Childs concert

Robert and David Childs set for première performance at the University of Western Australia.

30 years after he performed the Australian première of the John Golland ‘Euphonium Concerto’, Dr Robert Childs will make his long awaited return to Perth on July 13th.

He is set to appear at the Theatre Auditorium of the UWA University Club, where on this occasion he will conduct his son, David, in an Australian première performance of the breathtaking Karl Jenkins ‘Euphonium Concerto’.

Renewing acquaintance

The Welsh stars will be joined on stage by Perth’s very own Royal Agricultural Society Brass band conducted by UWA Head of Music, Dr Alan Lourens, who is certainly looking forward to renewing his musical acquaintance with Robert Childs, as he played in the first concert 30 years ago.

“It’s such an exciting event for the university,” he said. “World class musicians of this quality so rarely perform in Perth.”

We are trying to develop a following that will both support the brass band community and create a new audience from amongst the concert going community of PerthDr Alan Lourens

Night to remember

The concert is the second in an annual series entitled Brass Feast, the first of which featured Black Dyke trombonist Brett Baker. Alan added: “We are trying to develop a following that will both support the brass band community and create a new audience from amongst the concert going community of Perth. I’m sure together they will provide a night to remember.”

Spellbinding

The concert will also see performances of the timeless Frank Wright arrangement of the overture to ‘La Forza del Destino’ and Perth première of Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s ‘Enter the Galaxies’, as well as lighter works such as David’s own arrangement of the spellbinding ‘Hot Canary’ and classic ‘Endearing Young Charms.

There will be a cocktail party to follow the performance for patrons with drinks and canapés and a chance to meet the artists themselves.
