Composer Ernest Tomlinson and lifelong brass band supporters and administrators, Ivor Stevenson and Raymond Hewett have been given awards in the latest Queen’s Birthday Honours List published today.

87 year old Ernest Tomlinson, who wrote his iconic ‘Cornet Concerto’ in 1974 has been awarded the MBE for services to music, whilst Ivor Stevenson, Chairman of Armagh Old Boys Silver Band, has also been awarded an MBE for services to music and to the community in Northern Ireland.
Raymond Hewett has been award a BEM for services to Roke & Benson Brass Band.

In addition, Andrew Jowett, who was appointed Director of Symphony Hall in Birmingham in 1988, home to the British Open Brass Band Championship, has been awarded an OBE.
