Woodhouse Prize Band recently led Sheffield’s first ever Gay Pride March through the city.

Saturday morning shoppers cheered and waved as the band let the parade along Ecclesall Road to Endcliffe Park where the main event was taking place.
The band had been asked by The Centre for HIV and Sexual Health in Sheffield if they would support the march with the theme being ‘Brassed Off with Homophobia’

Woodhouse Secretary, Gemma Grayson told 4BR: "When we were first asked to perform I thought ‘this is a first’. I was unsure what the rest of the band would think about it, but I needn’t have worried – the band was totally up for it. Afterwards everyone commented what a great event it was and we are hoping to be asked to come back again next year."

Steve Slack, Director of The Centre for HIV and Sexual Health, added: "When we first decided we wanted to have a presence on the march we thought we wanted to do something different. We came up with the theme of ‘Brassed Off with Homophobia’ and were delighted when Woodhouse Prize Band enthusiastically accepted the invite."
He concluded: "It was a fitting celebration of our northern city and of its diversity. It was a very emotional occasion, with the young and old joining the march and crowds of delighted onlookers. A Gay Pride march being led by Woodhouse Prize Band felt a true Yorkshire way to celebrate out City’s diversity."
