Strong line up for West Lothian Challenge

Six top Scottish bands set to battle it out for the West Lothian Entertainment title this weekend.

Scottish Co-operative

The West Lothian Festival of Brass Contest takes place this weekend at the Howden Park Centre in Livingston.

Top bands

Six of Scotland’s top bands will hope to tickle the fancy of the audience as well as adjudicators Alan Fernie and Ray Farr with their 25 minute entertainment programmes, as they battle it out for the £500 first prize.

The action will start on Sunday at 2.00pm with Lochgelly taking to the stage, followed by Kirkintilloch, Bo’ness & Carriden, Kingdom Brass, Co-operative Funeralcare and Exchange Communications Whitburn.

Tweak

The tweak to the contest format this year means all six bands will battle for the title on the one day, with reigning champions Co-operative Funeralcare up against a strong field of domestic rivals.

The bands must perform one new arrangement, a solo spot, a section feature and a piece of music in tribute to Dr Roy Newsome as part of their programme.
