Old friends meet for baton relay

Two old girlfriends have met up to help brass the baton.

Old friends meet up

Two former school friends who share a love of brass bands met up in the grounds of St Asaph Cathedral in North Wales recently in order to take part in the 'Brass the Baton' relay, which forms part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Old friends

Karen Fox (in red), secretary and horn player of Port Sunlight Lyceum Brass, handed over the Red Baton to Jean Mottershead, a cornet player with Band Pres Porthaethwy/Menai Bridge.

Karen and Jean both attended Ellesmere Port Grammar School in their youth and have bumped into each other occasionally over the years due to their common interest in brass playing.

The need for the Baton to get from the Wirral to Anglesey was too good an opportunity to miss for them to get together and have a chat over old times4BR

The need for the Baton to get from the Wirral to Anglesey was too good an opportunity to miss for them to get together and have a chat over old times.

Menai Bridge Band will be using the baton as part of the arrival of the Olympic Torch at Menai Bridge on Tuesday 29th May, after which it will be handed over to the University of Warwick Brass Band.
