The players of Leicestershire Co-op Band enjoyed a good day at the office at the recent Leicestershire BBBA Open Slow Melody & Quartet Contest.

Heading the individual honours board was Harry Lear, who claimed the Junior Slow Melody title, before later being joined by Bethan Brown, Chloe Hudson and Marina Slee to take the Junior Quartet title.
Awards
Other awards won on the day included second prize for Sheila Dixon, (who teamed up with old friend Jo Priestly from Newhall) in the Open Duet class, and third in the Junior Hymn Tune Quartet for Hannah Capstack, Frances and Eve Gallimore and Abigail Barham.
This was later matched by the band’s senior quartet, which claimed third prize in the Open Section.
Harry Lear and Bethan Brown were also in action in the Junior Air Varie class, taking second and third prizes respectively.

Paying dividends
Musical Director, Graham Jacklin told 4BR: "Our training programme is really starting to pay dividends, we have a number of youngsters who are now playing in the senior band. Their quality is shining through at these contests, which we have always supported and we can now be competitive as well."
