4BR has been informed that due to the disappointingly low level of entries, the 57th annual Cornish Championships due to take place later this month have been cancelled.
Postpone
Secretary Fran Calver told 4BR: "A very disappointing entry of just eight bands has been received. In view of the potential very heavy financial loss which would have been incurred, the decision has been taken to postpone the contest and seek an alternative solution."
Thankfully, a new date has been announced for what has been a very popular event over the past half a century or more.
New date
Fran added: "After consultation, we are delighted to announce that the Championships will now go ahead on Saturday 29th September, in the Hall for Cornwall in Truro.
The event will take place prior to the concert given on the same evening by Black Dyke. This has been made possible by the kind help and co-operation of Bruce Taylor of Countrywide South West Estate Agents, for which we are very grateful."

All welcome
Fran revealed that it had also been decided to extend an invitation to all bands from all over the UK to take part, up to a maximum entry of 15.
They added: "The eight bands who supported the initial event will be given first priority but we would welcome other bands to take part in what is a wonderful contest day."
