The Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) has announced that members of the three bands of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland (NYBBS) can look forward to an exciting summer course at the University of St Andrews from 30th July — 4th August.

Invitation

In addition to receiving an invitation to perform a concert at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and the chance to participate in collaboration with tutors from the National Youth Choirs of Scotland, members will also have brilliant opportunity of working under Bramwell Tovey, who will be attending as a guest conductor during the course, together with Musical Director, Richard Evans.

Huge honour

Course Director, Neil Cross told 4BR: "We are always looking for new ways to develop and enhance the summer courses. The collaboration with visiting tutors will introduce a different musical learning experience whilst to perform at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival is a huge honour."

He added: "When these highlights are then combined with the attendance of Bramwell Tovey, I am sure that our young musicians will be looking forward to six days of exciting musical opportunities."

This year’s course looks set to offer a wonderful variety of new initiatives. I'm sure Bram Tovey’s attendance will have a huge impact on the young musiciansSBBA Development Officer, Andrew Duncan

Variety

Andrew Duncan, SBBA Development Manager added: "This year’s course looks set to offer a wonderful variety of new initiatives. I'm sure Bram Tovey’s attendance will have a huge impact on the young musicians."

Andrew added: "We were delighted that he was able to find time in his extremely busy orchestral schedule to attend this year’s course and we thoroughly look forward to introducing him to our talented groups of players."

Seize the chance

SBBA fully encourages brass and percussion musicians aged between 11 and 21 of all levels from Grade 3 upwards to seize the opportunities the NYBBS courses can offer them in the development of their personal musicianship, learning amongst likeminded enthusiasts from world-renowned tutors and conductors.
