4BR has been informed that Robert Westacott, the former Hepworth, Tredegar, Brighouse & Rastrick and Grimethorpe principal cornet player will become the new bumper up to Richard Marshall at Black Dyke.
Departure
The news comes following the announcement that after four successful years, assistant principal cornet Alex Kerwin has reluctantly resigned due to family commitments.
Alex told 4BR: "It's with real regret that I have to leave. The band are, and always will be, my greatest friends, and I thank Dr Childs for his guidance, support and friendship. I wish the band all the very best."
Special
Dr Childs added: "Alex is very special person. She has always put the band first, has been a terrific player and deservedly won the Black Dyke Bandsperson of the Year last year.
However, I understand why she now needs to spend more time with her two lovely children Cecilia and Aaron. We wish her all the very best."
Alex's final engagement will be at the York Barbican on 10th March, where she will also be joined by the band's newest addition.
I'm delighted to welcome Rob, who is a bandsman with a wealth of experience and a player with terrific technique. His record speaks for itself. He was the ideal choice as Alex's replacementDr Nicholas Childs
