Clifton & Lightcliffe MD, John Clay has told 4BR of his delight after his band won the Yorkshire Second Section Area title for the first time.
And although secretary Jane Clay pulled the dreaded number 1 in the draw it didn't stop the band overcoming a strong field of rivals to register their first Area win.
Enjoyed
John Clay told 4BR: "All the band members have worked very hard since Christmas on 'Cross Patonce' and the work paid off. It was a difficult test for the Second Section but we all enjoyed working on it."
Thee was further success for the incredible organisation, which can now boast close to 80 members in four different bands, as the Clifton & Lightcliffe B Band came a very creditable 5th in the Fourth Section.
We were just as delighted with the B Band. They are making steady progress, despite having me playing on the solo cornet bench at short noticeMD, John Clay
B Band delight
John added: "We were just as delighted with the B Band. They are making steady progress, despite having me playing on the solo cornet bench at short notice!"
He concluded: "We are so grateful to William Rushworth for stepping in and doing a great job especially with our younger members. He was a real inspiration to all of us — full of commitment, encouragement and enthusiasm."
