Conducting award for tireless worker

Lea Jones has been presented with the prestigious Con Buckley Conducting Award for 2012.

Usk

The members of the Usk Band are celebrating after their tireless youth band conductor, Lea Jones was presented with the prestigious Con Buckley Award.

The award is presented in memory of one the most respected conductors in Welsh banding history and is awarded every year at the Gwent Youth Festival in Cross Keys.

Tireless worker

Lea has worked tirelessly over the last decade to ensure the smooth running of the Usk Youth Band. Alongside Jeff Jones, who is also a former recipient of the award, they have reformed the Usk organisation into a vibrant three tiered youth training system.

Lea's work now ensures that many youngsters have the chance to progress through the system and now to play in the Usk Senior Band.

I've witnessed first hand just how much work she has done and I know she puts ever player's needs before her own. She has been an incredible role modelJamie Jones

Role model

Jamie Jones, the MD of Rogerstone Band, and Lea's son, commented to 4BR: "It's great that her work has been recognised in this way. I've witnessed first hand just how much work she has done and I know she puts ever player's needs before her own. She has been an incredible role model."
