Abusive tweeters face police action

Those people who indulge in abusive tweets at brass band contests will find that the long arm of the law is on to them.

4BR has been informed that the Police will consider taking appropriate legal action against people who are found to be using social networking sites at brass band contests to post libellous, inflammatory comments, including racial, religious and sexual abuse.

Action

4BR was informed of the course of action available to Police following incidents that took place at the Butlins Mineworker’s Festival in Skegness when 4BR was made aware of a potential copyright infringement of its logo on Twitter.

Abusive posts

Posts on Twitter during the event included comments amongst others, that suggested that a band soloist ‘looks like a serial rapist’ and that an award was being made for ‘services to s****ing children’.

Police and legal intervention is being considered if further complaints are made about the content, and those who posted them, from other sources4BR

Legal action

4BR understands that at least one person was informed that the content of the posts was being monitored by Butlins staff, whilst it is also understood that further investigation, including Police and legal intervention is being considered if further complaints are made about the content, and those who posted them, from other sources.
