Three BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award recipients will perform during the final concert of the forthcoming RNCM Festival of Brass on Sunday 29th January.
Exciting culmination
James Fountain (cornet), Ross Knight (tuba) and the Carnoustie & District Youth Brass Band will each showcase their talent at what promises to be an exciting culmination of yet another outstanding weekend of brass at Manchester’s world-renowned conservatoire and performance venue.
James, solo cornet of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, will perform ‘Jubilance’ by William Himes, whilst Ross, former Principal Tuba of the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland and member of the European Youth Brass Band, will perform Rodney Newton’s ‘Capriccio’.
Carnoustie Youth will present ‘Enter the Galaxies’, ‘A Little Prayer’ and ‘Dundonnel’ from ‘Hymn of the Highlands’.
RNCM Brass Band
The recipients will be joined by the RNCM Brass Band, directed by Nicholas Childs, and a panel of experts will select an overall Young Brass Award recipient during the concert.

World premieres
In addition, the concert will also include two world premières – ‘Petrichor’ by Lucy Pankhurst and ‘SHIFT’ by Simon Dobson (to be performed by the 2008 Young Musician of the Year, Peter Moore) as well as a massed band performance of Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s ‘Horizons’ .
