Butlins set to help Welsh Miners Fund

Bring your instrument along to play with Grimethorpe — and help a very worthy cause in the process at Butlins.

Butlins

There is going to be an unique opportunity at this year’s Butlins Mineworkers Open Brass Band Festival to play with Grimethorpe Colliery Band – and in the process help a mining charity.

Join Grimethorpe

Thanks to the hard work of Stan Lippeatt, you will be able to join forces with the stars of the Grimethorpe Re-union Band who have won countless British Open and National titles between them by bringing along your instrument to their Sunday night concert in the Centre Stage venue at 8.00pm.

Mining Appeal

The event has been organised to add a brass band contribution to the Swansea Valley Miner’s Appeal Fund, which is due to close in the next couple of weeks after raising close to £1 million for the families of the four miners killed in tragic circumstances last year.

For a small charitable donation you will receive a copy of the music to the Miners’ hymn tune ‘Gresford’ and a little memento of the occasion. During the evening you will be invited by Frank Renton to join the band in the performance of the hymn, from your seats in the theatre.

With the contest’s mining background it’s fitting that a contribution goes to this worthy appeal fundStan Lippeatt

Wonderful way

Stan told 4BR: "I think it will be a wonderful way in which the brass band movement can help in some small way. I hope the theatre will be filled with the glorious harmonies of this very poignant hymn tune. With the contest’s mining background it’s fitting that a contribution goes to this worthy appeal fund."
