Littlemore pads up at the Palace

Leyland Chairman Allan Littlemore will be whitening up his pads and sprucing up his band jacket for an appearance at Buck House next eyar.

One of the brass band movement’s most influential administrators will be enjoying the honour of an invitation to Buckingham Palace in the New Year.

Leyland Band Chairman Allan Littlemore and his wife Janet have been invited to attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace next May.

Extraordinary contribution

The invitation was received from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, and is in recognition of what they refer to as his, ‘extraordinary contribution to cricket and music’.

For many years Allan was the Band Manager at Foden’s Band, a role that saw him write a critically acclaimed centenary book. He was also responsible for the publication of the ground breaking Rakeway Brass Band Year books in 1987 and 1988.

Long term future

He took up the Chairman’s role with Leyland some years ago and has since helped them plan out their long term organisational future, with a partnership with the University of Central Lancashire and in the return of the band to a rehearsal facility in their home town.

A much respected local cricketer, he has managed to combine his duel passions for both sport and music for over 50 years of his life.

A spokesperson for Leyland Band told 4BR: "Everyone at Leyland value Allan's substantial contribution and guidance to the band, and we are thrilled and delighted at this recognition — made all the more special to be taking place in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Year."

Harrogate Band

June 15 • After a fantastic result at the Wetherby Drovers Contest, The Harrogate Band are looking for a front row and a back row cornet player to complete the team. Rehearsals Weds 8pm with occasional Sundays at our own bandroom with great transport links


Tintwistle Band

June 15 • We have a vacancy for soprano cornet, and with lots of exciting engagements coming up would love to get this seat filled!. As a second section band,we rehearse every Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our bandroom in Tintwistle under the baton of MD Jim Henson.
