Radio 2 Young Brass Awards announced

The recipients of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Awards have been announced.

The recipients of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Awards were recently announced at the Brass in Concert Championship in Gateshead.

Fountain and Knight

The Soloist of the Year aged under 18, was named as James Fountain, principal cornet of Grimethorpe Colliery Band whilst the Soloist of the Year aged under 21 was Scottish tuba player Ross Knight.

The Youth Brass Band of the Year was awarded to the all conquering Carnoustie & District Youth Band.

RNCM winner

James, Ross and members of the Carnoustie & District Youth Band were at The Sage to receive their awards from Simone Rebello and Frank Renton, whilst the overall winner will be announced at the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass in January next year.

The winner will be given a further performance opportunity on Radio 2.
