Grimethorpe aim for younger audience

Grimethorpe set to follow some famous stars by starring in hit BBC Children's programme.

Grimethorpe Colliery Band is set to follow in the footsteps of the stars such as Evelyn Glennie, Julian Lloyd Webber, James Galway and Cleo Laine and appear on ‘Zingzillas’ the BBC’s hit children’s CBEEBIES show.

Pinewood Studio

This Friday, 10 members of the band travelled to the world famous Pinewood Studios in London to record the music for the show, before returning to the new BBC studios in Salford to record the actual programme.

Band spokesperson Gareth Crane told 4BR: "This is exactly the sort of work that makes Grimethorpe so unique in the banding world. The producers contacted us and we said yes straight away. This is a great opportunity for the band to reach out to a new audience and fantastic publicity for the whole banding movement."

Gareth added that the news come at the end of a very busy period for the band: "We would like to place on record our thanks to Sandy Smith for stepping in at the last minute and doing a tremendous job in taking the band to Brass in Concert last weekend.

Despite the result we were delighted with our performance, but send our congratulations to winners Richard Evans and the Leyland Band."
