All roads lead to victory for MI, 2 & 3

There was a very speacial hat trick of wins at the SEWBBA Contest for the City of Cardiff Melingriffith Bands.

The City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) Band rounded off their contesting season in style on Saturday when all three bands that carry the famous Welsh banding name, came away from the SEWBBA contest in Blaenavon, the final leg of the 2011 Welsh League series with first prizes.

Clear winners

The senior M1 Band under MD Gareth Ritter, were clear winners in the First Section, securing the overall Welsh League title in the process, whilst reigning Fourth Section National Champion, M2 emulated their senior counterparts under the direction of Dewi Griffiths.

Wonderful day

To cap a wonderful day in the band’s history, their fledgling M3 Band also took a Gold Award in the Junior Section under Gareth Ritter’s baton.

In addition M1’s euphonium player, Frances Wilson claimed the ‘Best Soloist’ Award for her contribution to their five point winning margin, whilst principal cornet, Lyndon Dunstan also claimed the ‘Best Soloist’ Award for M2.

To cap a wonderful day in the band’s history, their fledgling M3 Band also took a Gold Award in the Junior Section4BR

Conductor Award

Meanwhile, M2’s MD, Dewi Griffiths, was awarded the prestigious ‘Eric James Memorial Trophy’ as the 2011 Welsh Conductor of the Year.
