Grimethorpe lead non protesting students

The players of Grimethorpe Colliery Band recently led a wonderful day of hard work for 95 students...

Grimethorpe

The annual Brass & Percussion Workshop event run by the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association, saw 95 students from as far as Teesdale and Nottingham converging on Minsthorpe Community College, near Pontefract to enjoy a great day of work under tutors from Grimethorpe Colliery Band and course leader Brian Grant.

Varied programme

Brian chose a varied programme of music including 'Simoraine', 'Mid all the Traffic', 'Entertainment' and 'Malaguena', whilst the students had the opportunity to accompany soprano star Kevin Crockford on his solo item.

The hugely popular day is made special by the work of the tutors from the band, including Kevin, Jamie Cooper, Jim Fletcher, Michael Dodd, Gareth Beckwith, Shaun Crowther and John Watterson.

The students went home expressing thanks for an excellent, challenging and exhausting day but looking forward to the next workshopWorkshop spokesperson

Hard work

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The students all agreed the music had been challenging but Brian Grant brought smiles to their faces when he congratulated them on the hard work they had put in during the day and the huge progress that had been made."

The day culminated with a successful concert of the music studied for assembled relatives and friends and also included two items by the tutors.

Thanks

A vote of thanks was given to Julie Millar, Manager of Minsthorpe Conference Centre for the excellent facilities provided and to Peggy Tomlinson, President of the YHBBA, for organising the course.

The spokesperson concluded: "The students went home expressing thanks for an excellent, challenging and exhausting day but looking forward to the next workshop."
