The St. Pinnock Band has been celebrating long and hard following their recent success in winning the Second Section of the popular SWBBA Torquay contest.
Suite Gothique
Their performance of ‘Suite Gothique’ saw them round off their contesting year following a fourth place at the Area contest and winning the title of SWBBA’s ‘Most Entertaining Band’ at the Exmouth Entertainment contest.
Chris Luckhurst told 4BR: "Chris Spreadbury took on the MD position a year and a half ago, since when we have continually improved. We are particularly pleased that the improvement has been achieved using existing talent with no loss of players through inability."

New technology
Chris revealed that modern technology is helping the band improve too.
"The MDs accomplished grasp of recording equipment has given the players much to talk about – as well as his authentic dance moves!"
Those moves certainly helped at Torquay, where adjudicator, Peter Bassano praised the band in their grasp of the stylistically difficult Minuet movement.
Superb
Chris added: "The adjudicator singled out the way in which we approached the music, with particular praise for Lauren Carroll on solo cornet and Rachel Crabb on euphonium. Lauren was awarded the ‘Best Instrumentalist’ Award for he superb contribution."
