A new brass teaching scheme entitled, ‘Brass Kidz’ has been launched by Elland Silver Band in partnership with the local Longroyde Junior School.
Joint initiative
The joint initiative will enable children in Year’s 3 & 4 to have the opportunity to learn to play a brass instrument.
Elland has loaned instruments and music to the school and the children will be taught in groups during school time by Elland’s Samantha Harrison before getting together after school to form the Longroyde Brass Kidz ensemble.
Cohesion
"This is fantastic opportunity for our children to get involved with," explained head teacher, Mr Robert Fox to 4BR.
"It’s an important part of our community cohesion work and we hope to encourage our young people to take up a skill for life."
Through our encouragement and training we look forward to seeing some of these children become members of our training bandKathleen Harrison
Encouragement
As part of the project, children will also be given the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the Elland Silver Youth and Training Bands in their local concerts.
Kathleen Harrison added: "Through our encouragement and training we look forward to seeing some of these children become members of our training band."
