Members of Yeovil Town Band are getting ready to step into the spotlight next month as they put the final touches to their preparation for their role in the iconic stage version of ‘Brassed Off!’.

Footlights

Joined by members of Burtle Silver Band they will tread the boards amidst the greasepaint and footlights of the Strode Theatre.

Yeovil MD Kev Robbins told 4BR: "I was thrilled when asked to do this as it brings back fond memories of my time in Yorkshire."

That time saw Kevin working at Brodsworth Colliery. "I was 18 and principal cornet of the Brodsworth Colliery Band working alongside the band’s MD John Childs and former MD Ken Johnson — meeting usually over a cup of tea," he said.

The band is excited about the opportunity it gives to increase our local profile and it gives us a boost ahead of what promises to be an exciting 2012 seasonMD, Kevin Robbins

Profile

He added: "My father worked underground as did both of my grandfathers, so it’s a story pretty close to my heart. The band is excited about the opportunity it gives to increase our local profile and it gives us a boost ahead of what promises to be an exciting 2012 season starting at the Yeovil contest and moving into our new bandroom courtesy of Agusta Westland of Yeovil."
