Death of Roy Winson

4BR has been informed of the death of Gorton stalwart.

4BR has been informed of the death of Roy Winson. He was 73.

Proud

Roy first became interested in brass bands when his son Gary started to play with Gorton Silver Band. Roy, though never playing a note himself, eventually became Band Manager. One of his proudest moments was when Gorton Silver became Fourth Section National Champions in 1990.

Throughout Roy’s life he continued to be a keen supporter of the brass band movement, becoming a committee member of the NWABBA Manchester District eventually holding the position of treasurer.

Delighted

Roy was delighted when both he and his wife Jean became Honorary Vice Presidents of the Manchester District Committee upon their retirement.

Roy made many friends in the North West area and it was always of concern to him that the movement continues for future generations to give other people as much pleasure as it did for himGorton spokesperson

Friends
