Cornwall gets youthful infusion

The new intake of youthful talent sees 27 new players join the ranks of the Cornwall Youth Band.

The Cornwall Youth Band started it’s new season recently with an intake of 27 new musicians.

78 musicians

Taking account of the usual loss of players that youth bands suffer, due to age limitations and university and college entry, the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, including its new members, now boasts 78 musicians, each of whom also plays with a parent band in Cornwall.

Local conductors

Led by three local conductors, Alan Pope, Aaron Harvey and Jeremy Willcock, supported by a team of tutors, each monthly rehearsal consists of full band and sectional sessions, which prepares the musicians for two annual residential courses.

This year the courses at Christmas will be led by Michael Fowles, who will be joined by Richard Marshall, whilst in Easter 2012, Dr Nicholas Childs, will be joined by Zoe Hancock, who is a former member of the Cornwall Youth Brass Band.
