The Co-operative Funeralcare Band North West will be helping to celebrate a reminder of the glory days of steam next month.
Train of Hope
The band will perform at Crewe Railway Station for the departure of the ‘Train of Hope’, which will be pulled by the steam locomotive Scots Guardsman, which will steam south in order to raise funds for the CLIC Sargent Appeal.
Happy memories
The departure will also bring back many happy memories for the band’s baritone player David Wood, who followed in his fathers and grandfathers steam steps by working as an apprentice at Crewe Locomotive Works in 1967 – the dying days of steam locomotion in the UK.
It was all diesel locos being built by the time I started my apprenticeship, but it will be marvellous to see Scots Guardsman on Saturday morningDavid Wood
Locos
David told 4BR: "It was all diesel locos being built by the time I started my apprenticeship, but it will be marvellous to see Scots Guardsman on Saturday morning."
