A rather condensed National Youth Brass Band of Scotland was recently invited to perform at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall with a group from the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland.
Tiger style
Under the direction of Richard Evans the ensemble performed along ‘Tiger Style’, a trio of Bhangra Drummers in a premiere of, ‘New Blood – a Fanfare for Youth’.
The music was composed by Jim Sutherland and orchestrated and transcribed by Jane Gardner and contained an interesting mixture of traditional and contemporary writing. There were solo and group performances throughout the work culminating in an exciting rhythmic finale.

New partnership
A spokesperson told 4BR: "For NYBBS it was a new partnership, which promises much more. This particular fanfare used only eight pipers but there are plans to involve a much larger pipe band and the future link-ups may take this exciting combination to many venues."
