The Fairey (Geneva) Band has reluctantly agreed to Phil Lawrence’s request to step down as their Composer in Residence after six successful years together.
Fruitful
A spokesperson told 4BR: "During the period the band introduced audiences in concerts and most especially at ‘Brass in Concert’ to some unique sounds and associations from serious works such as ‘Poet’s’ with the soprano Maggie McDonald to music for an episode of the children’s TV show ‘Roary the Racing Car!"
They added: "We wish Phil every success in his future ventures and thank him for a fruitful and mutually beneficial musical association."

Sad
Phil added: "It's sad to be 'leaving', but with large cinematic ventures ahead now is the right time. I have many happy memories with perhaps the best being the making of the CD 'It’s Not Unusual' which I still regard as one of the most diverse in terms of repertoire of any brass band recording of recent years."
Fond memories
He added: "I also have fond memories of conducting the band at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall for the premier of my 'Liverpool's Heritage' as part of the 2008 Capitol of Culture celebrations.
I’ve renewed friendships from my banding days with players such as Bernie Logan, Jimmy Leggatt, Brain Taylor, Ian Howarth and Paul Warder. I will be following the band toe Albert Hall again this year (as I have done for the last five) and wish them luck in all departments for the future."
